Had some drilling completed and the samples  have been assessed using XRF although no AU was identified. I'd like to know if the gold could be locked up in sulphides which is common for the mine region. What elements are the best indicators to look for?

XRF determines what elements are prsent and their percentages.  It does not determine mineral species.  So if no gold was indicated, their is probably no gold present.  It would not be masked by another element iusing XRF.

Additionally, what is the ANALYZER's LOW DETECTION LIMIT?

Often, it will not see anything under 20 grams/ton

An XRF will give a sample surface reading only. 

ie: a 1/4" diameter nugget inside a 1" rock chip will read @ Zero

Hello David, I am a new user here. So based on your statement that an XRF will give a sample surface reading only, would it also be accurate to say that the XRF will only read the exact spot where the tip of the gun comes into contact with the surface of the item being tested?

I originally thought the x rays would bounce around the inside of the sample (in my case, a rock) to give a whole rock reading. TY

Can you tell me what the LE stands for in this photo? The rock that we were testing is Rhode Island's state rock called Cumberlandite. It is an ultramafic igneous melatroctolite made up primarily of olivine, titaniferous magnetite, plagioclase, and small amounts of ilmenite and aluminum spinel.  Thank you.
