Repairing Allis Chalmers 36x48 Blake Double Toggle Crusher - Sitting on wooden boards. (1 reply)

Hello everyone,

I'm currently preparing for a repair job on an old Allis Chalmers crusher from the 50's of which I have no real information on. I've included a photo of the wooden boards I refer to.

Replacing parts is all well and good, we have those ready to go - but I'm struggling to get any answer from manufacturers with regards to how we can go about replacing the wood boards. They are about 4.5 in thick, 12 in wide and go the entire length of the concrete base (~14 feet). The studs anchoring the frame down go through these as well as the concrete foundation.

Have any of you worked with something like this, or have you seen it done before. I've heard of grout, but for 1 in thickness, not 4.5 in.

Any tips, suggestions, or references would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to end up with the wrong support and have the crusher hit resonance and break the concrete base.

Cheers,

PMD

In all probability they are a combination of shim and vibration isolators.  If you decide to remove them you will probably need to jack up the crusher and put large shims under it.  You will also need to re-level it afterwards.

If they are not rotten or broken I would probably leave them.  Alternatively "try" to find some replacements.
