hello

i working in Crud Recovery in copper SX (solvent extraction) i separate the organic phase by bentonite clay then organic phase separated from crud ... i can load this organic to system ?

Typically the crud formed in an SX circuit is literally sucked out of the settlers with vacuum pumps (small portable with hose/wand) and stored in in tanks. Crud forms at the interface of the aqueous/organic and can be seen floating on top of the settlers in the organic phase. In the cruds tanks the aqueous is bled out the bottom (heavier) and the organic is passed thru a clay treatment (bentonite) and the organic returned to process. The whole point of doing this is to return the organic to the process ($$$). Organic losses thru crud and/or to raffinate are the bigger costs of SX although as a unit process the SX represents < 5% of the cost of running a leaching operation.

Hi Ramine,

David took the words out of my mouth :).

The bentonite clay helps remove impurities from your organic, for our small SX circuits we treat a quantity of organic weekly with bentonite to help keep the organic phase in better condition.

Cheers,

Wayne

Commonly, we pump polluted organic phase into mixer, stewing and then open the valve on the bottom of the tank, release the entrained aqueous. Then we begin to mix and  adding clay according to our demand and calculation,  5 minutees mixing is enough. Then these mixture are pumped to filter press to press. The crud will be removed. The clean organic phase can be returned to SX unit according to practical need.

Hi Kevin,

Could you please explain your calculation? how many clays for how much organic?
