Of course, it does as mentioned earlier. In short, SO2 is a reducing agent. Once dissociate in the slurry it reduces the pulp potential which has a great impact on collector adsorption.

In some plants, for the reverse flotation of pyrite from the zinc concentrate in the cleaner cells SO2 gas purging is done. It reduces the pH of the slurry, and makes pyrite to float.

SO2 decrease pH and sometimes led to creation of elementary S on the sulphides particle surface highly improving its flotation ability.
