Normally when treating old dumps for PGM recovery, the material comes with vegetation and it generates an amount of wood chips which are know to absorb reagents(particularly xanthates) any ideas how to quantify the wood chips and how to quantify the amount of xanthate they absorb?

Thanks for your reply David, I am aiming at installing one, I need to motivate the value of this first though. some kind of a test-work relating to the benefit of having this unit installed is what I am currently looking for. do share if you have any idea.

Cost of fabricated trash catcher box approximately US$500 installed.  Put one in and see what happens.

The feed to the process have to be watched continuously and probably, occasionally shut off for 30 minutes or more to allow it to work out of a choke-up, caused by wood chips. Wood chips are removed from the slurry by a screen placed substantially horizontally above the overflow-discharge box. Some places consider a DSM screen.

You should determine the presence of clays because they can take the collector, and also, they would be reported in the concentrate. A mineralogical study can be useful to get this kind of information.
