Can HMS work for emeralds (1 reply and 1 comment)

Hi community, I'm an ambitious graduate mechanical engineer trying to find a way of making emerald mining easier. Lets say we were to put the rocks containing the emerald through a crusher, could we then apply the HMS process to the substance and get good results? I'm guessing that if it can work for diamonds, then it can work for emeralds, right?

The use of gravity separation for recovering emeralds has been used for quite a while.  Usually jigs and tables, but there is no reason that a dense media system could not be used.  The key factor being cost, as dense media is more expensive then jigs and tables (and spirals also of course).  If there is sufficient value (emeralds) in the raw ore it would work.

This decision is always an economic one.

Thanks for your response. Very informative. At the mine where I worked for experience, there wasn't a jig concentrator either lol
