Is it possible to gravity concentrate a gold dump during the rainy season using sluices taking advantage of the natural drainage system?

Sluices are relatively inefficient and require a relatively large amount of water (compared to tables or spirals) to operate, you may also have an issue with treating the water after use.

If so a standard plant with a water recovery system would operate more efficiently and could operate on a (relatively) small amount of make-up water.

There is no proper water source that’s why it is to be done during the rainy season only. 2. Capital is very limited since it is to be treated as a seasonal side project.

Any ideas on ways to set 'traps' so that the concentrate may be obtained passively. Are there any papers to this effect?

Alternatively you could use air jigs or air tables, or even a dry washer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drywasher). These could be used during the dry season.

Thanks for the information I will try the dry washer.

What is the size distribution of the dump? What was the previous process used (if any) for this material? The use of screening the material to separate the fines from the coarse is a pre-treatment to reduce the amount of material.

What potentials are available for collection of water during this rainy season?

1. Size approximately 300tons no characterisation has been done yet. At lower levels visible Au is observed on panning. There is also a low grade 0.43g/t Au gravel of unknown tonnage in the area.

2. Since the area is close to hill there is potential of colleting water during the rainy season. I need ideas on how to do this.
Any help on field methods to characterise the dump, estimate assays in the field, auger sampling, trenching etc.

The dump was treated using gravity separation in the early 90's. The tonnage estimate is 15000.
