GRG Test Question (1 reply)

We are reviewing some testwork for a client. In their plant flowsheet, they have three stages of gravity separation (Knelsons), but in the testwork they only did two stages.

Is this reasonable, or should they have done a 3rd stage to replicate the plant flowsheet?

The plant and lab are not fully connected in testing.  What matters is did the lab work achieve the results required.  Lab units are more efficient than plant units and they also treat the whole stream.  Often in a plant only a bleed stream is treated from the cyclone underflow.  This is why the number of plant stages and lab stages are not necessarily the same.
