Hi There,

We have a wet overflow rod mill which is being used to grind Malachite. We want to convert it into ball mill to get the finer product 80% passing 70 micron. Can we do the same?

simply, can we convert rod mill to ball mill? if yes then what are the measures we should consider.

Rod mill to ball mill can be done, it is the other way that is difficult.  The biggest issue will probably be your ball storage and feed system.  This is very different from a rod feed system.  Also balls are fed on a fairly regular basis such as once a day.  The biggest operational issue will be mill speed, and feed rate which need to be determined by testing and adjusted based on performance.  You will probably want to up your ore feed rate and possibly increase your mill speed.

Balls are usually added to the mill with the ore feed (after the initial charge).  This requires a bin over the feed belt and feeder to add the balls at the desired rate.  These are usually of the top size of the balls in the mill.  Also a method to load balls into the bin.  If you have a belt scale on the feed belt to verify the ore feed rate the ball feed should be after the scale (closer to the mill).
