Is the JK rock hardness method specifically A*b patented?Actually I want to know if I am able to define it myself and report it in a paper or not.

From a legal perspective, the JK Drop Weight machine, test and the associated results analysis to generate A and b parameters are not patent protected so there is nothing to stop you doing your own tests, calculating A and b and reporting those values.

However, JKTech does have a number of licensed laboratories around the world producing raw breakage data that is then subject to JKTech’s full analysis (A and b and other breakage characterization information) accompanied by JKTech quality control. The license gives those laboratories the right to report the results of their tests as JKTech authorized. If you were to derive your own A and b parameters you would not be able to claim such authorization.
