SAG Mill Ball Addition - methods to weigh (preferred) or count balls (2 replies)

I am looking for information on methods to weigh or count grinding balls being added to a large SAG mill. We have rotary feeders and launders that allow balls to roll by gravity from the launder to the SAG mill belt conveyor about 50 ft upstream of the SAG Mill feed chute. Would prefer to weigh the balls, but any information on reliable weighing/ball counting / or other systems would be appreciated.

I would calibrate the bin level and install an ultrasonic sensor in it.  Alternatively, you could install a metal detector and use the output to count balls going into the mill.

911Met can source these as well if you need one.

I have seen a laser of sort that balls roll past to count but had problems.

Also, load cells on hopper, magnet on load cell if using magnet to load balls.

Some units are also more controlled and only add 1 ball at a time and therefore can be counted that way or in conjunction with an instrument such as proxy or sound.
