Hi All,

The shell liner of the SAG mill wear in different rate depend on the position of the liner ring. Do we replace the half shell liner due to only wearing discharge end ring ? how we can manage that to replace the worn ones in time without replace the ones still have some lifetime ?

Regards,

Oumar

Hi,

  • what diameter SAG mill?
  • what %Cs Critical Speed are you operating at?
  • what thickness shell liner plate when new?
  • what total mill liner lifter height when new?
  • what height when worn at feed-end?
  • what height when worn at discharge-end?
  • what size SAG grinding ball?
  • how many weeks of life are you getting?
  • what arrangement: Hi/Hi or Hi/Lo?
  • what lift angle?
  • can you share a profile here for us to see?

Typically, you either add lifter height at the feed-end or remove at the discharge-end to harmonise their wear-life.

What you do depends on the answers to all the questions above.

Here is what it typical in larger SAG mills.
Millimetres of lifter bar/week of operations.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. My concern was on what the best strategy with highest ecenomic benefit of replacing liners: is it more economic to replace the hall shell liners when DE ring is worn and save on maintenance side by reducing number of shut downs or is beter to replace only worn out ring and you will have to do a number of shuts same as the number of rings you have in the mill ?

What you are trying to do is not something I have ever done or seen.

We change either the complete shell or half (in a High/Low setup).
We do not change half the DE or FE.

You need to review your production rates and economic in-house.
