Best grade of steel for pipeline to survive a H2SO4 (2 replies)

We are looking for expertise in the best grade of steel to use for pipeline a sulfuric acid with the following charactheristic :

H2SO4 - 90%
Operating Press. 1 Bar
Diameter of pipe 1/2 Inch
Normal operating temp.

Any advice and experiences with steel of pipe performance with this type of H2SO4 is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is bit of tough one, mild steel is OK for fully concentrated sulfuric but I think at 90% you will have issues. Most conventional SS are not good either. I would recommend a duplex stainless steel like ferralliam 255 - see this link here

There are also alloys like Hastalloy that would be suitable and titanium if you want to be certain!

You can also use plastic piping without any issue in your application and it will be a much lower cost.
