Will sodium sulfite drop gold from sodium gold cyanide solution?

Please also explain the reaction between the two.

Thanks in advance!

In the refining process adding chlorine gas or aqua regia, the dissolution process forms HAuCl4. It is possible to precipitate gold adding some reducing agents such as sodium metabisulphite, ferrous sulphate or oxalic acid. The reaction with metabisulphite is shown below,

4HAuCl4 + 3Na2S2O5 + 9H2O  = 4Au + 10HCl + 6NaCl + 6H2SO4
