i need help on method to reduce amount of gold lost in tails. i am having a problem of low cyanide consumption(250ppm dosed while 190ppm in tails) but still losing gold in tails

Dear Simon,

Could you tell me how much gold is there in feed and in tails. May be I can help you with that.

Regards

Vimal

feed grade is in range of 4.8-5.2 ppm and tails have 0.9ppm

Hi Simon

There are a whole host of things to check here and given the limited amount of information I have listed some:

  • Liberation - are you grinding fine enough?
  • Dissolved oxygen levels in your slurry
  • The presence of coarse gold
  • The activity of the carbon
  • The occurrence of preg robbers
  • pH
  • The presence of Cu, Fe and other cyanide consuming minerals
  • Segregation in your tanks
  • Mean residence time
  • The rate of carbon movement
  • Efficiency of Elution
  • Carbon degradation and the presence of fine carbon
  • Carbon fouling and efficiency of acid washing

Hope this helps and sets you off in a direction of investigation.

All the best

Tony

Hi Simon - with the results you are seeing and your flowsheet, I would say that you are possibly pushing the throughput too high and therefore presenting the CIL with a coarse grind and a low leach residence time. These two factors alone will result in low cyanide consumption (poor gold liberation and therefore less gold to consume the cyanide and less residence time to leach) and high tails due to the presence of unliberated and therefore un-leached gold. You should check your current grind size with that of the design. Cheers
