Hello,
My name is Cameron and I'm a Merrill Crow refiner. The mine I currently work at is brand new and I'm having troubles finding the correct flux recipe for this precip. I do not have a analysis to reference off of and it pretty much Is trial and error. My current recipe is 40% borax, 20% Soda Ash, 5-10% Silica Sand and 12-15% sodium nitrate. I've been changing it for over 7 months and this last recipe is the best so far but I still have high tails. Upwards to around 18%. The fluidity is too high and splashes during pour. I can see small amounts of metals on top of the slag pots. If I raise the sand to raise the viscosity the slag is no longer glass and creates expanding bubbles.
My questions are, How much silica is in the D.E/Precip and how much sand should I be using in the flux recipe. At what pouring temperature should I be pouring the slag and bullion and how do I eliminate the tails. Also if anyone has a Merrill Crow flux recipe I could try out.
Keep in mind I use a 1 million btu diesel inducto furnace with a silica bicarbonate crucible. Maximum Temp 2,300 F. We Refine around 500-800 pounds of precip a week.
