I had gold ore tailing which had been mercury amalgamated assay at 2-5g. I had do a leaching test and in the first 2 hours the recovery reach 90% and 12hrs at 75% and 24hrs at 64% and finally 52% @ 48hrs. The FCN is maintain at 1000ppm. The carbon content in this ore is 0.12%, S 0.33%, As 0.07%, Zn 65ppm, Pb 43ppm, Fe 17%, Cu 342ppm. The recovery rate decreased. May I know what is the possibility of the cause?

I suggest you do a CIL bottle roll test using active carbon.  Analyze the carbon either periodically or at the end of the leach and analyze the leached residue to determine your balance.  The active carbon should prevent or help the loss of leached gold being robbed by carbon or other constituents of the feed.  If this helps, a commercial CIL circuit should parallel the test results.

Well, as you mentioned it could be preg robbing, but hard to say with just one set of results. If there is anyway you could characterize the carbon, that would help to clarify if it is causing the problem or not.. even though the recovery and kinetics you presented are pretty good.

Yes, CIL bottle Leach show 92% recovery, but I am planning to process this ore on pond leaching. I wish to know the possibility of the cause so to see if there is any way to prevent the pregnant robbing issue.

Try to wash the ore and after that make again RollingBottle test
