Would you recommend a chemical solvent excluding hydrofluoric acid that dissolves silica minerals? (2 replies)

I trying to beneficiate a silver ore which is capsulated by silica mineral. It is a typical refractory ore. So I would like to get rid of silica. HF acid is so expensive. I'm looking for a cheap solvent which has capable to dissolve silica minerals.

I greet you and ask for your gracious assitance.

Normally HF is not used for ore processing but only for assaying silica encapsulated metals.  You need to determine what size the silica grains are and then grind the material to a fineness below this.  UFG is typically used for silica encapsulation - ultra fine grinding - getting the ore particles down to 30 um or less.  Have you tried pulverzing the ore and then leaching it?

Further silver is notoriously hard to extract - silver sulfide minerals are not very soluble in cyanide.

PS HF is dangerous and not used in many industrial applications - be careful

Hi Todd,

I have tried fine grinding many times below 10 um. We could not take a good results. I need another method. Our sample does not contain so much sulfide. The problems are silica lattice and Barium sulphate lattice. How can I get rid of these mineral matrix? Excluding HF and Pressure oxidation.

Thank you for reply.
