Calculating Slurry flow in 45 degree inclined pipe (2 replies)

Hi

I need assistance in calculating the end velocity of a 278.45 m3/h slurry of 1.6 SG density down a 45 degree rubber lined steel pipe of 480mm inner diameter. The fluid enters the pipe at near zero velocity. The vertical drop is 6.8m and pipe length 9.62m.

I'm trying to calculate at what velocity the slurry will exit this pipe.

Q = V * A  where Q is the volumetric flow rate, V is the velocity and A is the area.  If you know Q and A you can calculate V.  Measure the volume flow rate or use your feed rate, measure how much of the pipe is full at the exit and then calculate the area of flow.  Look at this link - Manning Equation
