If the sample was a liquid, that would be correct.  If the sample was a solid (several different particles) then not exactly as you need to account for the voids.

You will need to consult a chemistry reference book (CRC) for the various solubilities of metal chlorides to find out.  Most base metals are fairly soluble in the chloride state.
