Not a metallurgist, just a blacksmith who is somewhat familiar with steel from reading. so bear with me here because i have to explain in simpleton terms.

Attemping to bypass conventional steel bloomery and smelting by loading pure ingrediants -325 mesh (iron powder, charcoal and 1084 powder with borax and glass at the top) in a sealed vessel made of satanite refractory mortar.

Goal is to slag, carborize and austenize the steel till the grains have fused without crossing a+l, and achieve a .8-.1% fine grained tamahagane substitute via austenite grain expansion over time (aprox 12- hours heating time 4 hours attempted 2000f and allowed to slow cool in coals until cold) 

Given that i have previously been using a formula of 1-1 ratio iron to charcoal by volume for a .9% average carbon content in the forced air bloom, will the sealed enviroment increase the total carbon absorbed. Should i recalculate to by total cabron by weight compared to iron and steel as if i was doing a crucible steel?

Should add: current estimate ratio is 30% charocoal powder 30% ironpowder, 30% 1084powder, 5% borax mixed evenly with other ingrediants, remaining 5% glass placed at top of canister pre sealing.
