I am running some test using a lab size EMEW cell. I am told to use a certain current density, how do I calculate that? The cathode is 1.5 " diameter by 16" long stainless steel and the anode is 5/8 " diameter by 16 " long titanium.

Max,

Your cathode area is pi x D x L = 75.3 in2 = 0.52 ft2 = 0.048 m2.  If the target CD is 300 A/m2 you need to supply; 300 x 0.048 = 14.4 A

Thank you Mike, That is what I calculated but was not sure, I don't have a lot of experience in electrolysis. I will try this.

Hi Mike, i have to smelt gold with to much coper like impurity.

I'm just using soda ash, borax and silica but i get red gold barres
i want you to help to reduce the among of copper in my ingot.

Thank

If you don't have a lot of sulphides and have calcined your ore- you can leave out the soda ash. Try as % of concentrate mass: 80% borax, 25% silica and 25% potassium nitrate.
