Hi,

Why is Lead Nitrate put into the Electrowinning cell before the electrowinning starts. What is its purpose? The Met said it was just to make the operators job easier but did not need to be done.

I have not heard of putting lead nitrate in the EW circuit, and depending on how much was placed there, it might affect final done quality detrimentally.

I heard a bit more on that after I posted the query- It is supposed to 'coat' the cathode to help inhibit gold plating to the cathode. (stainless mesh cathode), but need confirmation on how true this is.

Doesn't sound right to me.

please do tell, what would sound right?

I was told to use lead nitrate to help remove “hard plated” gold from cathode. Anyone ever done that?

Well mate, that confirms what I was eventually told. Thanks.

I would still like to understand the reason why this would work, but we might give it a try.

We are conquering a plating issue with our gravity circuit EW and told about adding Lead Nitrate. However, this is the only place online I have found it mentioned. Does anyone have any sources for this information? Thanks.
