The objective is to determine the metallurgical performance considering the response of different ore types. It is important to classify the ore in different types  based on their mineralogical properties, lithology, alteration or any other attribute.

A metallurgical testing program should be performed on the different ore types to determine the copper extraction, acid consumption, effect of gangue on metallurgical performance, effect of particle size on copper extraction, optimum leaching time. Ore hardness is other parameter to study (e.g. crushing work index, Bond Ball Mill Work Index).

Results from the testing program will be used to develop models to estimate the metallurgical of the different ore types. Also, the models can be used to prepare the mine plan and optimize it. In this way, it is possible to know where are located the non-problematic ores and the problematic ores. A good mine plan is important because it has a impact on the estimated financial model.
