Please can someone help me with ways to ash gold activated carbon followed by smelting! . I tried ashing 300g using a pot on a gas cooker but we couldn't get the carbon to burn so we tried smelting the granule with borax and salt peter as flux. The smelting pot we used is the compressor of the refrigerator but what we got does not look like gold nor silver.

It is necessary to roast the active carbon to approximately 750 oC for about three hours. Subsequently can be used the ashes in the regular fire assay. As you can see the first stage is to produce a calcine. The materials  and the process used to perform a regular fire assay are well known.

For the ashing of carbon you may use Fluidized Bed Incinerators (FBI).
