A 7.6 magnitude of aftershock hit a mining location in Chile. This aftershock was because of the 8.2 magnitude earthquake last Tuesday which lead to the death of 6 individuals.

There were no casualties recorded after the aftershock. However, President Michelle Bachelet was forced to evacuate the area. He stayed in a hotel in the city of Arica.

Codelco and other mining companies that produce the red metal stated that their miners were not harmed and their mines are still fully operational. However, Anglo American, Glencore Xstrata and BHP Billiton has decided to vacate their miners to be with their families.

Aftershocks typically occur for weeks, months or even years. When the earthquake is too powerful, there will be more expected aftershocks.

Chile has never experienced a serious earthquake since 1877. Local seismologists do believe that the Tuesday incident is not not the major quake they have long been expecting in this region.
