Vale, as well as New Caledonia Southern Province president Cynthia Ligeard, has suspended the operations in Goro Nickel Processing Plant and Mine after an acid leakage.

According to Vale, the leakage was because of a misconfiguration of circuits responsible for transferring of solutions between its two retention ponds. The company however did not confirm what the composition of the spill is but the company continues to provide necessary measures to ensure that the damage will not have a huge impact on the environment.

Reports say that the spill affected even creeks, but Vale stated that they have worked on the problem and have sent their team to keep the quality of the water back to normal.

This is the 5th spill that have happened to the mine in as many years.

Because the mining company has finally resolved the spill, they are now just waiting for the government’s “GO” signal so that they can resume operation.
