Laboratory CounterTop Stirrer and Agitator

stirrer

STIRRER, Universal Motor, Electric—A small, compact electric motor with clamp attached directly to the frame for mounting on a laboratory standard.

The motor is of the constant speed, Universal Type, interchangeable on A.C. of different cycles or D. C. circuits of the same voltage, but not as to voltage. Variable speed is secured by means of a friction disc drive. The speed may be regulated over the range from about 100 to the full speed of the motor, about 3000 R.P.M. by the simple manipulation of a knurled thumb screw, while the motor is running. The variation does not involve a loss in power, as is the case with rheostat controlled motors when the speed is reduced by reducing the current.

Two chucks are provided for use on the rotating spindle, one for 12 to 18 B. & S. gauge stems, and the other to take glass rods from to inch diameter. A small pulley is provided for transmitting power by means of round belt for driving other laboratory apparatus. Approximate power at full load 1/40 H.P. Weight about 4 pounds. Complete with connecting cord and split plug, but without support stand, flexible shaft, glassware or stirrer.

FLEXIBLE SHAFT, only—For use with Nos. 58940-58941 Stirrers. Length, 12 inches. With guide to provide bearing for lower end. Can be attached to support by any standard right angle support clamp.

The frame is of heavy bronze, with Bakelite tip to bear on the lower end of the stopcock plug. A bronze screw, with vulcanite knob on one end and a brass swivel plate on the other takes different size maplewood heads. These heads fit over the head of the glass plug and rest on the shell of the stopcock. Four heads are supplied, permitting manipulating of plugs with largest diameter running from 3/8 to 5/8 inch inclusive. Complete with four maplewood heads, with instructions.

STOPCOCK REMOVER, Achessel, Large—Similar to No. 59275, but larger and stronger. Supplied with six maplewood heads for glass plugs with largest diameters running from 7/16 to ¾ inch inclusive. Complete with instructions.
