Storage of Polymers

Storage of Polymers

Storage of Solution polymers that are shipped in bulk, tote bins or in plastic drums.  Solution polymers should be stored between 35º and 105°F and protected from freezing.  If freezing occurs, the product should be warmed to 40º – 90°F and agitated prior to subsequent use.

Product rotation is recommended to avoid prolonged storage times.  The shelf life of most solution polymers is at least one year in unopened containers. Consult the product Technical Data Sheet for shelf life of individual products.

Spilled product is soluble in water in all proportions and can generally be hosed down into a wastewater system without problems. Follow all federal, state, and local regulations in clean up and disposal of spilled product.

Emulsion polymers storage after being shipped in bulk, tote bins, or in 3 bung steel drums.  Emulsion polymers, by their very nature, separate over time.  This is evidenced by a layer of clear oil on the top of the storage container.  If this separation is allowed to continue for several months there will also be a layer of thick (sometimes Vaseline-like) material on the bottom of the storage container.
