I am working at a mineral processing laboratory my problem is we want to analyze an oxide ore containing nickel and so i am searching for a geochemical analysis of nickel and a proper design and parameters for froth floatation of nickel including dosages.

A flotation testing program on nickel ore with an important degree of oxidation should evaluate the effect of sulphidization. The typical reagent is NaHS. The collector is a xanthate, Potassium Amyl Xanthate (PAX) is a strong collector. MIBC or Dowfroth 250 can be evaluate as frother. The pH should be around 8.5 and sodium carbonate can be used to regulate the pH.

The effect of particle size is the first parameter to evaluate (e.g. 150, 100, 90, 80 µm K80).

The addition of NaHS should be evaluated. For example, 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000 g/t. The sulphidization time is important to consider (e.g. 5, 10 minutes). The addition of PAX can be 30 g/t, and can be modified later. The froth texture is the best factor to select the dosage of frother. For instance, initially, 30 g/t can be added and an extra dosage after observing the froth.

Other factor to consider is the presence of gangue minerals such talc or serpentine because they can create some problems during the rougher flotation. If they are a problem, it will be necessary to evaluate other suite of reagents (e.g. guar gum). A mineralogy study is important,

Kinetics flotation tests are a good indicator to determine the maximum recovery of nickel and the sulphidization efficiency.
